I absolutely love the VKB STECS Standard!
Transitioning from more "arcadey" HOTAS setups like the Logitech G x56 or Logitech G X52 Pro does come with a learning curve. The VKB Dev configurator can be intimidating at first, but the Discord community is incredibly helpful and willing to explain things in layman's terms if needed.
The build quality is outstanding, a solid 10/10. I did notice a slight play in the metal TGL up/dn 3-way switch on the STEM, but it still feels robust enough to handle quick taps without any issues.
The throttles are incredibly smooth, even at the lowest friction setting. They glide effortlessly and still don't require much force to move, even when set to full friction. The tactile feedback of the buttons and switches is excellent, providing a satisfying "donk" or click, so you always know when you've pressed a button or flicked a switch.
The rotor knobs have tactile detents you can feel throughout the full 360° rotation. One minor gripe is the lack of a middle detent at the 180° and 360° marks, but the overall experience with the knobs is still fantastic, a solid 10/10.
The modularity of the throttle buttons, sliders, and 5-way hats is mind-blowing, earning an 11/10 in my book. I highly recommend spending the extra money to get another tray with more modular buttons when purchasing the STECS Max or Standard.
The custom detents are a game-changer, especially for setting up afterburners in DCS planes. It's a chef's kiss feature, and I only wish it came with more than the five inserts provided (future VKB purchase for sure).
In conclusion, despite having a small YouTube channel with 73 subscribers at the time of writing, I would love to review more VKB products in the future. VKB has converted this loyal Logitech HOTAS fanboy into a believer in their superior quality. Hats off to you, VKB. Thank you!
The throttle is soo silky smooth, the buttons feel pretty good… and it fits well in my hand. The configuration and programmable nature with the app makes it very flexible, especially with the interchangeable detents… I am still exploring how to fully leverage it… thankfully the YouTube videos help out a bit… just be aware you have to invest some time in setting this up to get the most out of it…
Amazing throttle setup, definitely a step up from the Thrustmaster HOTAS One I had prior. Insanely versatile and customisable, I still haven’t found a use for half of the buttons and switches because there’s so many. Well worth the money, my only problem is there not being enough W detents for my liking.
I upgraded from a well known 'beginner' throttle to this and the effect was immediate. This thorttle has excellent build quality and functionality for the price. Even the packaging and shipping process was great!
I have found the specs very easy to use and reliable. I had a bit of trouble connecting to my pc but I sent an email to VKB about 7 pm and to my surprise within 15 minutes they contacted me and I was shown the way to do it with a couple of emails, this is by far the best follow up you could get.
